Nuuk Airport (GOH) has recently undergone a transformative expansion, solidifying its position as the premier international gateway to Greenland. Located just four kilometers northeast of the capital city, the airport now features a state-of-the-art terminal building that opened in the spring of 2024. This modernization project included the extension of the runway to 2,200 meters, allowing the facility to accommodate large wide-body aircraft such as the Airbus A330 for the first time in its history. The new terminal is designed with a sleek, minimalist Arctic aesthetic, providing a warm and efficient environment for both domestic and international travelers. The terminal's layout is exceptionally logical and compact, spanning two main levels to streamline passenger flow. The ground floor is dedicated to landside operations, including spacious airline check-in counters, a modern baggage handling area, and a welcoming arrivals hall. The upper level houses the security screening zone—a first for Nuuk—along with passport control for non-Schengen flights. Once airside, passengers can relax in a bright waiting area that offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountainous landscape. The airport is designed to handle up to 800 passengers per hour, ensuring that even during peak travel periods, the terminal remains easy to navigate. Despite its manageable size, Nuuk Airport offers a high standard of amenities for its visitors. Café Sumut, located both before and after security, serves a variety of light snacks, sandwiches, and traditional Greenlandic pastries, alongside hot meals like burgers and omelets. A dedicated duty-free shop provides a selection of international goods and unique local artisan crafts, perfect for last-minute souvenirs. The terminal is equipped with free unlimited Wi-Fi, numerous charging stations, and accessible facilities for travelers with reduced mobility. While there are no dedicated VIP lounges, the modern seating and quiet atmosphere provide a comfortable experience for all frequent travelers.
