Tuguegarao Airport (RPUT) serves as the primary aviation gateway to the Cagayan Valley region of the Philippines, strategically positioned along Maharlika Highway in Tuguegarao City, the provincial capital of Cagayan Province. Classified as a major commercial domestic airport by the Air Transportation Office and managed by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines since 2008, this modernized facility experienced remarkable growth with 225,961 passengers in 2023, representing a 52.8% increase from previous year volumes. The comprehensive rehabilitation project culminated in March 2018 with Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade inaugurating the expanded passenger terminal building following extensive infrastructure improvements.

The current terminal infrastructure encompasses a 1,100-square-meter passenger building with second-floor expansion capabilities planned for future development phases, supported by a 150 by 115-meter aircraft apron capable of handling multiple regional aircraft simultaneously. Recent modernization included ₱10.67 million in runway and taxiway widening projects, while the single runway (17/35) accommodates Airbus A320 and similar aircraft types serving the region's growing passenger demand. Ground transportation connects seamlessly to adjacent municipalities throughout Cagayan and northern Isabela provinces via Maharlika Highway, with tricycles and taxis providing convenient access to Tuguegarao's city center within minutes.

Operational activity centers on robust domestic connectivity provided by Cebu Pacific's multiple daily Manila flights, Philippine Airlines' restored daily service using Airbus A320 aircraft resumed in October 2023 after a four-year suspension, and Sky Pasada's specialized routes linking northern Luzon destinations including Basco (Batanes), Cauayan (Isabela), and Calayan Island. The airport's strategic importance extends beyond commercial aviation to encompass emergency medical evacuations, disaster relief operations during frequent typhoon events affecting northern Luzon, and charter services supporting the region's agricultural economy centered on rice production and livestock farming. Weather monitoring remains critical as the Cagayan Valley regularly experiences tropical cyclones requiring careful flight planning and potential diversions during severe storm events.
