🇩🇿 Es-Sénia, Algeria
Oran Ahmed Ben Bella Airport (ORN), also known as Es Sénia Airport, is the second-largest aviation hub in Algeria, located approximately 6 miles (9 km) south of the city center. The airport recently underwent a major modernization with the opening of Terminal 1, a state-of-the-art international 'smart' terminal designed with advanced sustainability features, including a large-scale solar power plant and rainwater recovery systems. Terminal 2, the original facility, has been renovated to handle all domestic traffic.
The terminal infrastructure provides a wide range of amenities for travelers, including multiple VIP and premier lounges that offer comfortable seating and refreshments. Both terminals feature various dining options serving local and international cuisine, alongside retail shops and duty-free outlets in the international sector. Passengers also have access to essential services such as ATMs, currency exchange desks, and free high-speed Wi-Fi throughout the complex.
Ground transportation at ORN is well-supported by a large, modernized parking facility with over 3,500 spaces, including dedicated zones for short-term and long-term parking. Taxis are readily available outside the arrivals area, and several car rental agencies maintain desks on-site. While the airport is currently accessed via the N2A and N4 highways, ongoing infrastructure projects are focused on connecting the terminal complex directly to the Oran tramway network.
Oran Ahmed Ben Bella Airport (ORN) is the primary international gateway to northwestern Algeria. Ground transport is well-supported; a dedicated shuttle bus connects the terminal directly to the Es Sénia tram terminus every 30-60 minutes. From there, you can catch a tram to central Oran (Place du 1er Novembre) in about 20 minutes.
Taxis are also plentiful outside arrivals; ensure you agree on the fare upfront (approx. 1,000-1,500 DZD). The terminal is modern and handles regular domestic flights to Algiers and international service to Europe and the Middle East For most travelers, that means the airport is useful precisely because the taxi or host pickup can take you straight into the city without a long delay.
Arrive 3 hours early for international departures due to thorough security screenings. Facilities include basic cafes, duty-free shops, and currency exchange bureaus A taxi or arranged car is the cleanest way into the city, because the airport is built for throughput rather than for lingering. If you are continuing into Oran or the coastal suburbs, the taxi leg is usually the cleanest option from the airport. A taxi or tram plan should be settled before landing, because the city transfer is the whole point of the airport.
• Use the shuttle bus and tram for an easy and cheap city link.
• Negotiate taxi prices upfront; there are no meters in local cabs.
• Connect through Algiers (ALG) for more regional airline options.
