Khujand Airport (LBD)

Khujand International Airport (LBD), identified by its ICAO code UTDL, is the primary aviation hub for the Sughd region of Tajikistan, situated in the town of Buston approximately 11 kilometers from the Khujand city center. The facility is currently undergoing a significant modernization phase scheduled for full completion by late 2026, which includes the construction of a new 150-seat restaurant complex and a comprehensive five-story hotel reconstruction to accommodate up to 200 guests. These upgrades are designed to elevate the airport's capacity and comfort levels as part of a national push to establish northern Tajikistan as a major regional tourism and logistics center. The passenger terminal building, which underwent a major renovation in 2019, provides a range of modern amenities for both domestic and international travelers. Inside, passengers can access a dedicated VIP lounge featuring a winter garden, several duty-free retail outlets, and modernized mother-and-child rooms. The facility manages frequent international rotations, primarily connecting the region to over 14 destinations across Russia and Central Asia via major carriers such as Somon Air, S7 Airlines, and Ural Airlines. Free high-speed Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal, ensuring connectivity for business travelers and tourists navigating the Silk Road corridors. Infrastructure at Khujand is exceptionally well-supported by a new flight technical service complex commissioned in late 2025, which enhances on-site aircraft maintenance and operational safety. The airfield features a robust asphalt runway capable of handling modern narrow-body jet aircraft like the Boeing 737 series, which form the backbone of the national carrier Somon Air's local hub operations. Ground transportation is readily available outside the arrivals hall, with official taxi ranks providing a reliable 20-minute connection to the city center. Travelers are generally advised to arrive at least three hours before international departures due to the detailed security and customs procedures required for cross-border transit.
