Jessore Airport (JSR)

Jessore Airport (JSR) is a significant domestic aviation facility serving the city of Jashore and the broader southwestern region of Bangladesh. Located approximately 6 kilometers from the city center, the airport acts as a primary link for regional trade and connectivity to the national capital. In July 2023, a major milestone was reached with the inauguration of a new, modern passenger terminal designed to handle up to one million passengers annually. This facility represents a significant upgrade from older infrastructure, providing a streamlined and professional entry point for both business and leisure travelers moving through this strategically important industrial and agricultural hub.

The technical infrastructure at Jessore is robust and has undergone extensive renovation to support increased traffic and enhanced safety. It features a single asphalt runway (16/34) that measures 2,438 meters (7,998 feet) in length. Recent upgrades have included the installation of a thicker asphalt concrete overlay and modernized airfield ground lighting (AGL) systems, ensuring high operational reliability for medium-sized jet aircraft such as the Boeing 737 and regional turboprops operated by major domestic carriers. The airfield is also equipped with modern drainage systems and high-capacity fire trucks, reflecting the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh's (CAAB) commitment to international safety standards.

Passenger amenities within the new Jessore terminal are focused on modern efficiency and providing a comfortable environment. The facility includes eight check-in counters, five baggage drop-off zones, and several baggage reclaim belts to ensure quick processing. Travelers can find a selection of small cafes and snack bars serving local and international refreshments, alongside basic retail kiosks for travel essentials. Essential services such as ATMs, nursing rooms, and assistance for differently-abled passengers are well-integrated into the terminal layout. Free Wi-Fi is available for travelers, and the building's compact design ensures that walking distances are minimal, allowing for quick transitions from the terminal to local ground transport networks.
