Phuket International Airport features two main terminal buildings handling approximately 18 million passengers annually, making it Thailand's second busiest airport. The Domestic Terminal serves all Thai domestic routes with modern facilities and efficient processing, while the International Terminal handles the majority of tourist traffic from Asia, Europe, Australia, and the Middle East. During peak holiday periods (November-March), the airport experiences extremely high traffic with significant processing delays. Walking distances within terminals are moderate: check-in to gates 10-18 minutes in the international terminal, 8-12 minutes in the domestic terminal. Inter-terminal transfers require exiting to landside and re-entering security, adding 20-30 minutes minimum. Security processing varies dramatically by season: 15-25 minutes during low season, 45-90 minutes during peak holiday periods. Immigration can add 20-60 minutes for international passengers depending on aircraft loads and season. Both terminals offer extensive duty-free shopping, Thai restaurants, massage services, and tourist amenities. Ground transportation includes airport buses, taxis, and hotel shuttles to Phuket's beaches and resorts. The airport serves as the primary gateway to Thailand's most famous beach destination.
