Colonel Carlos Concha Torres Airport (ESM), formerly known as General Rivadeneira Airport, serves as the primary aviation gateway for the city of Esmeraldas and the northern coastal region of Ecuador. The airport underwent a transformative $45 million modernization project between 2012 and 2014, which completely replaced the aging legacy infrastructure with a state-of-the-art facility. The project included the construction of a brand-new passenger terminal, a new air traffic control tower, and a significant extension of the runway to 2,555 meters.
