Entebbe International Airport (EBB)

Entebbe International Airport (EBB) is the primary aviation gateway to Uganda, situated on the shores of Lake Victoria approximately 40 kilometers from the capital city, Kampala. The airport has undergone a major transformation with the opening of a new, expanded passenger terminal in early 2024. This modernization project has doubled the airport's capacity to 3 million passengers annually, featuring state-of-the-art infrastructure including advanced check-in systems, new boarding bridges, and improved baggage handling facilities. The airport remains a critical hub for both tourism and regional commerce in East Africa.

The terminal building is organized with international arrivals on the ground floor and departures on the first floor. The expansion has introduced more spacious waiting areas, modern air conditioning, and a wider variety of amenities. Travelers can find several duty-free shops, currency exchange bureaus, and diverse dining options ranging from local Ugandan cafes to international snack bars. The facility also offers premium lounges for business travelers, free Wi-Fi, and electronic charging stations throughout the departures hall. A separate, smaller terminal continues to handle domestic flights and specialized charter services for those heading to Uganda's national parks.

Uganda Airlines, the national flag carrier, uses Entebbe as its primary hub, offering an expanding network of regional flights to Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, and Johannesburg, as well as long-haul services to Dubai and London. Other major international carriers including Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways, and Qatar Airways provide frequent links to global hubs. Ground transportation to Kampala is facilitated by the Entebbe-Kampala Expressway, with taxis and pre-arranged shuttles being the most common methods of transit. Travelers are advised to arrive at least three hours before international flights due to thorough security checks and potential queues at immigration desks.
