Quiché Airport (AQB)

Quiché Airport (AQB) serves the city of Santa Cruz del Quiché in the central highlands of Guatemala. This facility is a small domestic airfield rather than a commercial airport, primarily supporting general aviation, government flights, and humanitarian missions. There is no scheduled airline service. The infrastructure is basic, consisting mainly of a paved runway and a very modest building or shelter used for administrative purposes and waiting. It acts as a critical access point for the mountainous region, which can be difficult to reach by road.

Operational procedures at AQB are informal and determined by the specific nature of the flight. There are no standard security checkpoints, baggage conveyor belts, or check-in counters. Passengers traveling on private charters or aid flights typically coordinate directly with their pilots or sponsoring organizations. Access to the tarmac is controlled, but lacks the rigorous screening found at international hubs like La Aurora (GUA). As a domestic-only facility, there are no immigration or customs services.

Amenities are virtually non-existent at the airport itself. Travelers should not expect food service, retail shops, or Wi-Fi. The airport is located close to the town of Santa Cruz del Quiché, where accommodation, dining, and ground transportation (taxis and buses) can be found. Visitors should arrange for ground transport in advance, as there is no dedicated taxi stand at the airfield.
