Zangilan International Airport (ZZE)

Zangilan International Airport (ZZE) is a newly constructed, state-of-the-art aviation facility serving the Zangilan District in the East Zangazur economic region of Azerbaijan. Officially inaugurated in October 2022, the airport represents a major milestone in the country's efforts to develop its liberated territories. As one of Azerbaijan's eight international airports, it serves as a critical gateway for the region's socio-economic revitalization and integration into the national transport network. The airport holds immense strategic importance as a primary pillar of the Zangezur corridor initiative. This ambitious project aims to create a multi-modal transport link between the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and mainland Azerbaijan, bypassing long-standing geographic barriers. By providing a modern international landing site in East Zangazur, the airfield facilitates the rapid movement of personnel, investors, and logistical supplies necessary for the large-scale reconstruction projects currently underway across the district. Technically, the airport is equipped to handle a wide range of aircraft, including heavy cargo planes and large passenger airliners. It features a single asphalt-concrete runway measuring 3,000 meters in length and 60 meters in width, along with a massive 60,000-square-meter apron. The passenger terminal is built to high international standards, with a capacity to serve approximately 200 passengers per hour. The infrastructure includes a modern air traffic control tower and comprehensive ground handling facilities designed for 24-hour operations. Inside the terminal, travelers have access to a variety of modern amenities tailored for both business and leisure travel. The building houses comfortable VIP halls, dedicated office spaces for administrative functions, and a well-equipped medical center. While the commercial sector is still developing, passengers can find cafés and small retail kiosks offering essential goods. The airport's sleek, contemporary design and efficient layout ensure a professional and welcoming environment for all visitors to this rapidly transforming region of Azerbaijan.
