Zunyi Xinzhou Airport (ZYI)

Zunyi Xinzhou Airport (ZYI) is a significant dual-use military and civilian aviation facility serving the city of Zunyi in China's Guizhou Province. Located approximately 40 kilometers northeast of the city center, the airport's origins trace back to a military air base constructed between 1966 and 1970. In 2009, a major 408-million-yuan expansion project was launched to convert the site into a modern civilian transport hub, culminating in its official opening for commercial service in August 2012. The airport's architecture is a distinctive cultural landmark, with the passenger terminal's design intentionally resembling the site of the historic Zunyi Conference, a pivotal moment in the history of the Communist Party of China. This unique aesthetic blend of red-history heritage and contemporary engineering makes it one of the most recognizable regional airports in southwest China. The facility serves as a primary gateway for travelers visiting the region's historic revolutionary sites and the scenic landscapes of northern Guizhou. The passenger terminal spans 11,000 square meters and is designed for high efficiency and passenger comfort. It features a two-level layout, with the departures hall on the upper floor and arrivals on the ground level, ensuring a streamlined flow for both domestic and regional international traffic. Inside, travelers have access to a variety of amenities, including comfortable waiting lounges, medical facilities, and retail outlets offering local Guizhou products. The airport is currently planning further expansions to increase its annual capacity to over 2 million passengers. Airside operations at Xinzhou are supported by a 2,800-meter concrete runway (Class 4C), capable of accommodating a wide variety of narrow-body aircraft such as the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320. As a dual-use facility, the airfield remains a vital component of national defense infrastructure while simultaneously providing robust commercial connectivity. The airport is a major base for regional carriers like Colorful Guizhou Airlines and provides frequent connections to primary Chinese hubs, cementing its status as an indispensable pillar of the province's transportation network.
