Riverside Municipal Airport (RAL/KRAL) operates as a premier general aviation facility strategically positioned four miles southwest of downtown Riverside, serving California's Inland Empire region with comprehensive corporate, private, and flight training operations across 525 acres of developed aviation infrastructure. Established as a vital aviation hub for western Riverside County, the airport maintains no scheduled commercial airline service but instead specializes in general aviation activities supporting business aircraft operations, flight instruction, and private aviation needs for the greater Southern California metropolitan area.

Airport infrastructure consists of two primary runways optimized for different aircraft operations: the main Runway 9-27 measuring 5,401 feet by 100 feet capable of accommodating business-class aircraft including Gulfstream GV, Falcon 50, Challenger, and Citation X models, while the crosswind Runway 16-34 spans 2,850 feet by 50 feet designed for smaller cabin-class aircraft during challenging wind conditions. Both runways feature comprehensive navigation aids including ILS, GPS, and VOR approach systems enabling all-weather arrivals and departures, supported by an FAA contract control tower operated by Serco Corporation operating seven days weekly from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

Facilities encompass 140 individual aircraft hangars providing secure storage for based aircraft, complemented by full-service FBO operations offering fuel, ground handling, pilot amenities, and comprehensive support services for transient and based aircraft operators. The airport serves as headquarters for Civil Air Patrol Squadron 5 since 2005 and hosts California Baptist University's aviation science program, which received a donated Boeing 727-200F from FedEx Express in 2013 for educational purposes, demonstrating the facility's commitment to aviation education and emergency services.

Operational significance extends throughout Southern California's general aviation network, with NextGen Flight Academy providing FAA Part 141 and Part 61 certified flight training programs using a diverse fleet including Cessna 172s, Piper Arrow, Cessna 120, Beechcraft Duchess, and Cessna 152 aircraft.
