Payam Karaj International Airport (PYK)

Payam International Airport (PYK) is a primary multi-modal aviation hub and the only specialized postal and cargo airport in Iran, located in Karaj approximately 25 miles (40 km) west of Tehran. The airport operates from a modern 6,000-square-meter integrated passenger terminal that was inaugurated in 2018 to handle both domestic and international traffic with high efficiency. It acts as a critical infrastructure link within the Payam Special Economic Zone, providing a design capacity for up to 1.5 million travelers annually and connecting the industrial heartland of Alborz to major national destinations.

The terminal infrastructure provides a range of contemporary amenities across its unified layout, featuring functional check-in modules, comfortable air-conditioned waiting lounges, and modernized security screening points. As a major logistics center, the airport campus houses three massive 2,500-square-meter hangars and extensive specialized warehousing for international freight. Travelers and business technicians have access to free Wi-Fi and dedicated administrative spaces, while the facility is equipped with its own specialized refueling unit and Category 7 firefighting systems to support wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 747.

Ground transportation to central Karaj and Tehran is well-supported by local taxi services and widely used ride-sharing apps like Snapp and Tap30 situated directly outside the arrivals hall, providing a quick 20 to 30-minute link to the city's main districts. The airport is strategically positioned near major highway networks and a planned 'dry port' connection to the national railway system, providing a streamlined environment for both passenger transit and large-scale commercial logistics. Travelers are advised to arrive at least 2 to 3 hours before departures and should verify current operational status through official channels due to the facility's high-security industrial surroundings.
