Penang International Airport operates through a single integrated terminal building serving both domestic and international flights with two levels - Level 1 for arrivals and Level 2 for departures. The current facility features 11 gates connected by 8 aerobridges, 61 check-in counters, 3 baggage reclaim belts, duty-free shops, restaurants, premium lounges, baby care rooms, prayer rooms, and free Wi-Fi. Current capacity handles 6.5 million passengers annually, though it peaked at 8.3 million in 2019. A major RM1.55 billion expansion project began in 2024, scheduled for completion in 2028, which will double capacity to 12 million passengers annually and expand terminal floor area from 55,000 to 115,000 square meters. The expansion includes a new multi-storey car park with 3,400 total parking spaces, 28 aircraft parking positions (up from 16), 10 autogates for international processing, and plans for LRT connectivity. The terminal renovation will enhance passenger flow and amenities while maintaining efficient domestic/international transfers through the integrated design.
