Porbandar Airport (PBD) is a dual-purpose aviation facility serving the historic port city of Porbandar, Gujarat, famously known as the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi. The airport features a modern 4,000-square-meter passenger terminal inaugurated in 2008, designed to blend contemporary glass and steel architecture with efficient domestic processing. It serves as both a civilian regional hub and a strategic base for the Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard. The terminal infrastructure provides a range of essential amenities for travelers, including air-conditioned waiting lounges, standard check-in counters, and a baggage claim area with modern conveyor belts. Passengers have access to small cafés offering local snacks and refreshments, alongside a dedicated VIP room for high-profile visitors. The facility is fully accessible, providing wheelchair assistance and medical aid for elderly or physically challenged travelers. Operationally, the airport is primarily served by SpiceJet, connecting Porbandar to major hubs like Mumbai. The airfield features a 4,500-foot asphalt runway (09/27), with government-approved plans underway to extend the strip to 2,600 meters to accommodate larger jet aircraft. Ground transportation to the city center, located approximately 3 miles (5 km) away, is well-supported by prepaid taxis and auto-rickshaws situated directly outside the terminal exit on the Porbandar-Ranvav Highway.
