Urmia Airport (OMH)

Urmia Shahid Bakeri International Airport (OMH) is the primary air gateway for the West Azerbaijan province in northwest Iran, located approximately 9 miles (15 km) north of the city center. The airport operates with a single, functional terminal building that has recently been upgraded to increase its capacity to over 1 million passengers annually. It serves as a key domestic hub with limited international connections to regional cities like Istanbul and Erbil.

The terminal infrastructure provides essential passenger services, including standard check-in counters, a baggage claim area, and on-site currency exchange facilities. For connectivity, travelers can purchase local SIM cards from major Iranian operators directly within the terminal. While the dining and retail options are minimal, featuring a few coffee shops and small outlets for basic needs, the airport has implemented digital flight information systems to improve the overall passenger experience.

Transportation to and from the airport is well-supported by official airport taxis, with the journey to central Urmia typically taking 20 to 30 minutes. Private transfers and car rentals can also be arranged through dedicated desks inside the terminal, and affordable, though less frequent, bus routes are available for budget-conscious travelers. The airport's proximity to Lake Urmia, just 12 miles away, makes it a convenient starting point for sightseeing in the region.
