Mayaguana Airport features a brand-new terminal building that opened in February 2026 as part of the Government's Family Islands Airport Renaissance Project. The modern 3,200-square-foot facility represents a $2.1 million investment funded through a public-private partnership with Mayaguana Island Developers, marking a significant upgrade for this easternmost island in the Bahamas. The fully air-conditioned terminal provides comfortable passenger processing with dedicated ticketing areas, seating for 30 passengers, and specialized airline office space for Bahamasair operations.

The terminal's contemporary design incorporates practical amenities essential for efficient island operations, including a comprehensive baggage screening area, modern restroom facilities, and designated vendor spaces for local services. Security infrastructure includes an on-site police station with holding cell capabilities, ensuring proper law enforcement presence for this remote location. The facility operates with full electrical power systems and modern communications equipment, including UNICOM frequency 122.8 for aircraft coordination.

As part of the broader infrastructure development initiative, the terminal serves as a cornerstone for positioning Mayaguana as a future hub for tourism, trade, and logistics in the southern Bahamas. The building's architecture reflects modern Caribbean design principles while maintaining functionality for the island's unique operational requirements. Construction completed in the third quarter of 2025, with Prime Minister Philip Davis officially commissioning the facility on February 27, 2026. This new terminal dramatically improves the travel experience for residents and visitors accessing the island's pristine beaches, world-class fishing, and untouched natural environment.
