Los Garzones Airport (MTR) is a premier regional aviation facility serving the city of Montería and the broader Cordoba Department in northern Colombia. The airport is currently undergoing a transformative internationalization process, aimed at establishing it as a key gateway for both domestic and international travel in the Caribbean region. A major milestone in this development was reached with the launch of direct routes to Panama City, marking the facility's transition from a strictly domestic hub to an important player in the binational aviation network.

The passenger terminal has recently undergone significant upgrades to support its international status, featuring differentiated access points for domestic and international travelers. The modernized facility includes state-of-the-art biometric systems for streamlined passenger processing, expanded migration modules, and specialized customs and anti-narcotics inspection zones. Inside, the arrivals hall has been completely revamped to offer a higher quality of service, with updated baggage claim areas and a variety of retail and dining concessions that reflect the local culture. Technical infrastructure is also being enhanced, with plans to install advanced explosive trace detection systems and high-capacity security scanners to meet global aviation standards.

Strategically, Los Garzones serves as a vital hub for the region's agricultural and livestock industries, providing a high-speed alternative for business executives and technical contractors. Ground transportation from the terminal to the Montería city center is well-organized via official taxi ranks and private vehicle arrangements, with the commute taking approximately 15 to 20 minutes. The airport's commercial apron features four parking positions for narrow-body aircraft, accommodating frequent flights from major carriers like Avianca and LATAM. Travelers are advised to arrive at least 90 minutes before domestic departures and two hours for international flights to navigate the new security and migration protocols effectively.
