Luena Airport (LUO), also known as Comandante Dangereux Airport, serves as the critical aviation gateway to the Moxico Province in eastern Angola. Situated approximately 3 kilometers north of the city center, the airport functions as a vital transport hub for the region's socio-economic development, connecting this expansive and relatively remote province with the national capital, Luanda. Its impressive 3,350-meter asphalt runway is one of the longest in the country, specifically designed to handle large commercial aircraft and support the high volume of domestic and logistical traffic required for the region. While amenities are focused on essential needs, the terminal houses small cafes and shops providing light refreshments and local essentials, all within a clean and well-lit professional environment. Operational capabilities at Luena are supported by advanced technical infrastructure, including modern landing lights and on-site generators that facilitate essential night-flight operations. This capability is critical for TAAG Angola Airlines, which maintains the primary scheduled link to Luanda's agostinho neto International Airport. Ground transportation to the city center is readily available via local taxis and the ubiquitous 'kupapatas' (motorcycle taxis), with the commute typically taking between 10 and 20 minutes. Arriving at the terminal at least 90 minutes before a scheduled departure is recommended to navigate the airport's modern security and baggage handling systems smoothly.
