London Gatwick Airport (LGW)

Gatwick has two terminals (North and South) linked by a free automated shuttle that runs every few minutes and takes around 2 minutes platform to platform; allow 10–15 minutes total when moving between terminals and re-clearing security. Within each terminal, pier gates are reached via long concourses with travelators, and most UK/European flights depart from South Terminal while many long-haul and easyJet operations use North. Rail and coach stations sit landside at South Terminal, with covered walkways to check-in.

Security screening is centrally located in each terminal with family and Fast Track lanes; typical waits are 5–15 minutes off-peak and 20–30 minutes in early morning peaks. Arriving passengers connecting to another terminal must exit, ride the shuttle, and clear security again.

UK Border Force desks and eGates handle immigration in both terminals; customs exits follow immediately after baggage reclaim with red/green channels. International transfer passengers without UK entry clearance generally must enter the UK and re-check, as airside transfers are limited.

Amenities are strong in both terminals: North hosts No1 Lounge, Clubrooms and an Emirates lounge plus restaurants like Jamie Oliver’s Diner, Pret and Shake Shack. South offers the No1 Lounge, Clubrooms, My Lounge, and the Concorde Room for eligible BA passengers, alongside dining such as Wagamama, Nando’s and The Grain Store. Both terminals feature large World Duty Free stores, WHSmith/Boots, currency services and showers in select lounges.

Accessibility is fully step-free with lifts, ramps and accessible restrooms throughout; Changing Places facilities sit landside in both terminals, and staffed Assistance Reception desks are near the concourses. Family amenities include dedicated family security lanes, kids’ play zones near select gates (notably in North Terminal), baby-changing rooms adjacent to most restrooms, and child-friendly menus at many eateries.
