La Fria Airport (LFR)

Francisco García de Hevia International Airport (LFR), commonly referred to as La Fría Airport, is a domestic aviation facility serving the Táchira state in western Venezuela. Located approximately three kilometers northwest of the town of La Fría, the airport acts as an important regional gateway for travelers heading toward San Cristóbal or the Colombian border region. The facility operates from a single, compact passenger terminal designed to handle domestic arrivals and departures with a straightforward and intuitive layout. The terminal building houses essential services within its main hall, including airline check-in counters and basic passenger amenities. Facilities are modest, featuring a few small cafes and snack bars that offer coffee, light meals, and beverages for travelers in transit. There are also a limited number of retail shops selling travel essentials and local souvenirs. While the airport is officially designated as an international facility, it currently lacks permanent customs and immigration infrastructure for regular commercial flights, primarily serving as a domestic hub for carriers such as Conviasa and LASER Airlines. Ground transportation to and from the airport is primarily facilitated by local taxi services, and it is highly recommended that travelers arrange for authorized transport in advance. The airfield features a single 2,025-meter asphalt runway (01/19) and typically operates during daylight hours. Due to its proximity to the border with Colombia, the terminal serves as a strategic alternative for those navigating the Andean region. Passengers are advised to confirm their flight status and arrive at least two hours before departure, as services can be irregular and terminal amenities are limited for long waits.
