Capital Region International Airport (LAN), identified by its ICAO code KLAN, is currently undergoing a significant modernization and infrastructure expansion to serve as a primary aviation hub for Mid-Michigan. The facility operates from a single, multi-level passenger terminal that was recently enhanced with the debut of the Spartan LANding Lounge, a dedicated space sponsored by Michigan State University Athletics featuring soft seating, charging stations, and wall-mounted TVs for travelers. As of early 2026, the airport has secured $7.8 million in federal funding to replace and modernize its mechanical boarding bridges, ensuring improved accessibility and safety across all nine gates. Inside the terminal, passengers have access to a variety of modern amenities, including Capital Brewport, a full-service restaurant and bar that offers local Lansing craft beers and specialty lattes. For rapid transit, the facility features Market 24/7 automated micro-markets in both the pre-security lobby and post-security gate areas. A unique aspect of the airport is its Visitor Pass Program, which allows non-traveling members of the public to access post-security amenities and gate areas to spend time with arriving or departing loved ones. The airport manages frequent rotations via American and Delta, alongside a major leisure expansion from Breeze Airways and seasonal international services for Apple Vacations. Infrastructure at LAN is entering a transformative phase with a $9.4 million roadway project that includes a new traffic circle and the airport's first dedicated pedestrian walkway to the terminal. Additionally, the facility has expanded its cargo ramp by 63% to support its status as Florida's third-largest cargo hub and a primary base for Amazon Air and UPS. In July 2025, LAN installed Michigan’s first electric aircraft charger, positioning itself as a leader in Advanced Air Mobility (AAM). Ground transportation is well-supported by local taxi ranks and car rental desks, providing a seamless 10-minute connection to downtown Lansing and the Michigan State University campus.
