Purdue University Airport (LAF), identified by its ICAO code KLAF, has recently undergone a historic transformation with the official opening of the new Amelia Earhart Terminal in August 2025. This 10,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility was specifically designed to meet modern TSA and FAA requirements, marking the successful restoration of regular commercial jet service to West Lafayette for the first time since 2004. Named in honor of Amelia Earhart's legacy as a Purdue career counselor and advisor, the facility manages approximately 11 weekly round-trip flights using 50-seat CRJ-200 aircraft, providing a professional and efficient environment for travelers navigating the Indiana aerospace corridor. Infrastructure at the airport is exceptionally well-integrated with the university's academic mission, acting as a living laboratory for the School of Aviation and Transportation Technology. In addition to the new passenger terminal, the 2024–2025 expansion phase included significant landside improvements such as a new short-term parking facility and enhanced safety measures for the regional railroad pedestrian crossing. Ground transportation is well-supported by dedicated ride-sharing zones and local shuttle services that provide a 5-minute connection to the Purdue campus and the nearby Discovery Park District, ensuring a seamless multi-modal experience for students, faculty, and visiting corporate partners from companies like Saab and Rolls-Royce.
