Nadzab Tomodachi International Airport (LAE) represents Papua New Guinea's second major international gateway following extensive redevelopment completed in recent years, featuring a modern terminal building located 42 kilometers northwest of Lae in Morobe Province along the Highlands Highway. The comprehensive facility opened after construction began in 2016 includes 16 check-in counters, two passenger lounges including an Air Niugini lounge, state-of-the-art airport systems, full immigration and quarantine facilities, and modern aerobridges capable of serving wide-body aircraft. This transformation from a regional facility to an international airport eliminates the need for travelers to transit through Port Moresby, establishing Lae as a direct international gateway serving PNG's industrial heartland.
