Kerry Airport (KIR) is the premier regional aviation hub serving southwest Ireland, including the popular tourist destinations of Killarney, Tralee, and the Ring of Kerry. As of early 2026, the facility has undergone a significant €5 million redevelopment project, resulting in a modernized passenger terminal designed for high efficiency and comfort. The airport acts as a critical air bridge for the County Kerry region, connecting the Wild Atlantic Way with major domestic hubs like Dublin and international cities like London, Manchester, and Frankfurt.

The terminal's layout is organized into a single integrated building to ensure a highly intuitive and streamlined passenger experience. The main landside concourse houses centrally located check-in counters and arrival services, while the airside zone features a newly expanded departures hall that is nearly three times larger than the previous space. Arriving passengers benefit from a modernized arrivals hall opened in early 2025, which includes an upgraded Garda immigration zone and an enlarged baggage collection belt. This compact design ensures exceptionally short walking distances, often allowing travelers to move from the entrance to the boarding gate in under 10 minutes.

Amenities within the Kerry terminal provide a high standard of service while maintaining a friendly, local atmosphere. Passengers can enjoy a fully licensed bar and restaurant in the main concourse, with additional catering and bar facilities available in the airside departure lounge. The airside gift shop offers a curated selection of Irish whiskey, local pottery, and premium perfumes, with duty-free shopping available for eligible non-EU routes. The facility provides free high-speed Wi-Fi, clean public restrooms with baby changing stations, and specialized assistance services for passengers with reduced mobility. A dedicated airside smoking area has also been introduced as part of the 2025 expansion.

Ground transportation at KIR is well-coordinated with the local regional infrastructure, with Killarney and Tralee just a 15-to-20 minute drive away. Taxis are readily available at the terminal exit to meet all scheduled flight arrivals, and several major international car rental agencies, including Avis, Hertz, and Europcar, operate desks directly within the main concourse. For those preferred independent travel, both short-term and secure long-term parking are located directly in front of the terminal entrance. Travelers are generally advised to arrive at least two hours before their flight to account for standard security procedures, though check-in and security are known for being fast and efficient due to the airport's focused regional operations.
