Kingscote Airport (KGC), also known as Kangaroo Island Airport, serves as the primary aviation gateway to one of Australia's premier wildlife and nature destinations. Located 6.5 nautical miles (12.0 km) southwest of Kingscote in the locality of Cygnet River, the airport completed a comprehensive $21.25 million redevelopment in 2018, funded jointly by Commonwealth and State governments with Kangaroo Island Council. The current terminal building was designed by Ashley Halliday Architects as both a regional transport hub and unique cultural venue.

The Ashley Halliday-designed terminal creates a strong, authentic identity through its relationship with Kangaroo Island's unique natural setting, functioning as both an airport and destination brand ambassador. The single-level building integrates check-in, arrivals, and departure functions within a flowing, open-plan design that emphasizes the island's natural materials and lighting. The terminal layout facilitates efficient passenger processing while showcasing the island's character through architectural elements that reflect the local environment.

The terminal emphasizes Kangaroo Island's reputation for premium local produce and artisanal products through carefully curated commercial spaces. A central café and retail area features regional specialties including local wines, honey, eucalyptus oil, and handcrafted items from island artisans. The facility incorporates modern amenities including free Wi-Fi throughout, accessible facilities, family areas with baby change rooms, and business services. An art exhibition space regularly showcases works by local Kangaroo Island artists, reinforcing the terminal's role as a cultural gateway.

The 2018 infrastructure upgrade included runway extension and overlay, taxi-way realignment, expanded apron pavements, and enhanced cargo processing facilities. Ground transportation connects efficiently with island tourism infrastructure through dedicated shuttle services linking to Kingscote, Penneshaw ferry terminal, and major accommodation properties.
