Jiujiang Lushan Airport (JIU)

Jiujiang Lushan Airport (JIU) is a significant regional aviation facility located in the Jiangxi Province of China, serving the city of Jiujiang and the broader Lushan region. After undergoing an extensive reconstruction and modernization phase, the airport officially reopened for commercial traffic in late 2021. The facility operates from a modern passenger terminal building spanning approximately 11,815 square meters, designed to provide a high-quality and efficient environment for travelers. Its strategic location, just 10 kilometers west of the Lushan Mountain Scenic Area, makes it a primary gateway for international and domestic tourists visiting this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The technical infrastructure at Jiujiang Lushan is robust, featuring a single concrete runway (05/23) that measures 2,800 meters (9,186 feet) in length and 50 meters in width. This runway is capable of handling medium-sized commercial jet aircraft, such as the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 models operated by carriers like Hainan Airlines and Capital Airlines. The airport is classified as a 4C standard facility and serves as a joint civil and military enclave, ensuring high operational standards and security. Recent upgrades have focused on enhancing apron capacity and installing modern landing systems to ensure reliable operations in the humid subtropical climate of Central China.

Passenger amenities within the new Jiujiang terminal are focused on modern efficiency and comfort. The building includes a range of waiting areas with contemporary seating, several cafes and restaurants serving local Jiangxi cuisine, and specialized retail kiosks offering Lushan tea and other regional handicrafts. Essential services such as check-in counters, baggage handling systems, and assistance for differently-abled passengers are well-integrated into the layout. Despite its compact size compared to provincial hubs like Nanchang, the terminal provides a streamlined experience with minimal walking distances and quick processing times. Its proximity to the mountain ensures that arriving passengers can reach the foot of Lushan and its cableway stations in about 20 to 30 minutes.
