Keshod Airport (IXK)

Keshod Airport (IXK) is a significant domestic aviation facility located in the Junagadh district of Gujarat, India. Serving the cities of Junagadh, Keshod, and Veraval, the airport acts as a primary gateway for international and domestic tourists visiting the world-renowned Gir National Park, the last abode of the Asiatic lion, and the historic Somnath Temple. The facility currently operates from a compact and efficient passenger terminal that has been recently modernized to provide a comfortable environment for travelers moving through this culturally and ecologically rich region. The technical infrastructure at Keshod is undergoing a major transformation to support increased regional connectivity. It currently features a single asphalt runway (05/23) that measures approximately 1,372 meters (4,500 feet) in length. A significant expansion project is currently underway, which includes extending the runway to 2,500 meters to accommodate larger commercial aircraft such as the Airbus A320. Additionally, a new 6,500-square-meter terminal building is under construction, designed to handle up to 800 passengers during peak hours. These upgrades, expected to be completed by early 2027, will significantly enhance the airport's capacity to handle the surge in traffic during the peak pilgrimage and wildlife safari seasons. Passenger amenities within the current Keshod terminal are focused on essential comforts and modern efficiency. The facility includes a selection of waiting areas, check-in counters, and basic snack stalls offering local Gujarati refreshments. Essential services such as a mother and child room, assistance for differently-abled passengers, and baggage handling facilities are well-integrated into the layout. The airport's compact size ensures that walking distances are minimal, allowing for quick processing from arrival to onward transport. Its strategic location, just 55 kilometers from Somnath, makes it a highly convenient entry point for exploring the spiritual and natural landmarks of the Saurashtra peninsula.
