Aligarh Airport (HRH)

Aligarh Airport (HRH) is a newly operational domestic aviation facility located in the Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh, India. The airport officially commenced commercial operations in March 2024 as part of the Government of India's UDAN (Regional Connectivity Scheme), which aims to make air travel affordable and accessible to regional populations. The facility features a modern and compact passenger terminal spanning approximately 1,250 square meters, designed for high efficiency and quick passenger throughput. Inside the terminal, facilities are focused on the essential needs of domestic travelers. Passengers have access to a comfortable waiting lounge, several check-in counters managed by regional airlines like FlyBig, and a cafeteria located in the secure airside area. The terminal is designed with inclusivity in mind, featuring wheelchair ramps and ground-level access for passengers with reduced mobility. While the airport currently lacks large-scale retail or luxury lounges, the environment is professional and provides a significantly improved travel option for the local community and academic institutions like Aligarh Muslim University. Navigating the terminal is extremely simple due to its logical, single-level design. Ground transportation is well-supported by local taxi services and private vehicle parking located directly outside the main entrance, connecting the airport to Aligarh city center which is approximately 11 kilometers away. The airfield features a well-maintained runway that currently handles regional turboprop aircraft, with ongoing plans for a second phase of development to extend the runway and expand terminal capacity to accommodate larger narrow-body jets like the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320.
