Salote Pilolevu Airport (HPA), also known as Lifuka Island Airport, is the primary aviation gateway to the Ha'apai island group in the Kingdom of Tonga. The airport features a small, traditional single-story terminal building designed to handle the domestic passenger flow connecting the central islands to the capital, Nukuʻalofa. The terminal's architecture is simple and functional, reflecting the relaxed island lifestyle of the region and providing a streamlined transit experience for both residents and tourists. Inside the terminal, facilities are focused on essential traveler needs. There is a general waiting area with basic seating and a small kiosk that typically offers light snacks, refreshments, and local items. Due to its status as a domestic regional field, there are no large-scale retail shops, duty-free zones, or luxury lounges available at the airport. Travelers are encouraged to arrange for any specialized supplies in the nearby town of Pangai before arriving at the field. One of the most unique features of Salote Pilolevu Airport is a public dirt road that intersects the runway; airport staff manually operate gates to stop vehicular traffic whenever an aircraft is taking off or landing.
