Fuyuan Dongji Airport (FYJ)

Fuyuan Dongji Airport (FYJ) is a specialized regional facility serving Fuyuan County in Heilongjiang Province, at the extreme eastern tip of China. Opened in 2014, the airport features a single 2,500-meter paved runway and acts as a symbolic air gateway to the 'Eastern Pole' of the country. It is world-famous as the first place in China to witness the sunrise, making it a popular destination for tourists heading to the Dongji Pavilion and the nearby border with Russia along the Ussuri and Amur rivers.

The passenger terminal is a modern, compact facility of approximately 4,000 square meters, designed specifically to withstand the harsh Siberian-style winters of northeastern China. It operates under a single-roof concept, integrating arrivals and departures for domestic flights. Within the terminal, travelers can find essential amenities including streamlined check-in counters, a centralized security screening zone, and a waiting lounge with basic refreshments. The airport is also equipped with modern heating systems and four aircraft parking aprons to handle the growing volume of sunrise-seeking tourists and regional business travelers.

Scheduled air services at FYJ are primarily provided by Air China and Chengdu Airlines, offering regular links to major national hubs including Beijing Capital (PEK), Harbin (HRB), and Chengdu (TFU). These flights connect the remote border region with China's broader aviation network. Ground transportation is well-served by a dedicated airport shuttle bus that connects the terminal to Fuyuan city center, located approximately 19 kilometers to the east, with a travel time of about 30-40 minutes. Taxis are also available outside the arrivals hall. Travelers are advised to confirm their flight status frequently during the winter months, as heavy snow and river fog can occasionally impact visibility and flight schedules.
