Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA) is the primary aviation hub for northeastern Indiana and a significant regional gateway for the Great Lakes manufacturing corridor. The airport is currently undergoing a massive multi-phase expansion and renovation project known as 'Project Gateway.' A major milestone was reached in mid-2023 with the completion of the West Terminal expansion, which introduced a modernized facade, new baggage handling systems, and enhanced ticketing areas. The ongoing East Terminal phase, scheduled for completion in June 2025, will relocate all boarding gates to the second floor and significantly enlarge the TSA security checkpoint.

The airport also features an 'accessibility cane trail' and modern tactile signage, reflecting its commitment to being one of the most inclusive regional airports in the United States.

Commercial air services at FWA are provided by major carriers including American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines, along with ultra-low-cost carrier Allegiant Air. These airlines offer non-stop links to 13 major destinations, including primary hubs like Chicago (ORD), Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), Atlanta (ATL), and Charlotte (CLT). Ground transportation is well-integrated, with several car rental agencies located within the terminal and a dedicated taxi and ride-sharing zone. The airport is situated approximately 8 miles south of downtown Fort Wayne, and its manageable size ensures a quick transition from gate to curb, typically taking less than 10 minutes.
