Pointe Vele Airport (FUT) is the primary aviation gateway to Futuna Island, part of the French overseas collectivity of Wallis and Futuna. Located at the eastern tip of the island, the airport features a single 1,100-meter asphalt runway that was uniquely constructed directly onto the coral reef. It acts as an absolute lifeline for the local population, providing the only rapid transportation link for passengers, medical supplies, and essential goods in a region where regular maritime services are infrequent. The passenger terminal is a small, functional facility that provides essential services for regional travelers. It consists of a single-story building that houses a basic waiting area, check-in counters, and administrative offices for the airport authority. Scheduled air services at FUT are exclusively provided by Aircalin, the national carrier of New Caledonia, which operates regular domestic links to Wallis Island (WLS). These flights, typically using Twin Otter aircraft, connect Futuna with the national capital and provide the primary route for international connections to Noumea (NOU) and Nadi (NAN). Ground transportation on the island is limited to private vehicles and pre-arranged shuttle services from local guesthouses, as there are no regular taxi or bus services stationed at the airport.
