Foshan Shadi Airport (FUO) is a unique mixed-use military and civil aviation facility serving the major industrial city of Foshan in Guangdong Province. In late 2024, the airport inaugurated a ground-breaking new passenger terminal, notable as the world's first large-scale modular-built airport terminal. Spanning over 11,000 square meters, this facility was constructed using advanced prefabricated modules, allowing for a rapid project timeline and minimized environmental impact. It acts as a critical reliever hub for the Pearl River Delta, providing a more efficient alternative to the massive Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport for domestic travelers.

The new modular terminal is designed for high-efficiency passenger flow, featuring six boarding gates and two spacious baggage claim carousels. The interior offers a modern and bright environment with a variety of amenities including cafes serving Cantonese refreshments, several retail shops for travel essentials, and dedicated quiet zones for business travelers. Despite its innovative 'transitional' construction, the terminal provides a full suite of modern services including high-speed Wi-Fi, numerous charging stations, and comprehensive accessibility features. The airport is primarily designed to handle up to 2.6 million passengers annually, focusing on streamlined domestic processing.

Scheduled air services at FUO are almost exclusively provided by China United Airlines, which uses the airport as a major regional base. Frequent daily flights connect Foshan with primary national hubs including Beijing Daxing (PKX), Shanghai (PVG), Hangzhou, and Chengdu. Ground transportation is well-integrated with the Foshan city center, located just 9 kilometers away, via specialized 'Airport Express' shuttle buses and local taxis. The airport is also conveniently positioned near major regional highways and the Foshan Metro system, offering easy access to the city's manufacturing districts. Travelers should arrive at least 90 minutes before departure, as the airport maintains strict security protocols due to its dual military-civilian status.
