Lungi International Airport features a brand new state-of-the-art terminal that opened in March 2023, representing a $270 million investment by the Sierra Leone government. The modern terminal has a capacity of 1.2 million passengers annually and includes the latest technology and highest compliance standards. Facilities include a new presidential terminal, fully functional air traffic control tower, new cargo terminal, sea terminal with commercial facilities, and administrative buildings. The airport features new parallel taxiway, passenger apron, and presidential apron with rehabilitated runway. Since March 2023, the airport has been managed by Summa Airports under a 25-year BOT concession, improving operational efficiency and international connectivity. The new terminal offers enhanced security, immigration, baggage handling systems, and passenger amenities compared to the previous facilities. Ground transportation includes the famous Sea Coach ferry service to Freetown across the estuary, which takes approximately one hour.
