Cangapara Airport (FLB)

Cangapara Airport (FLB), also known as Aeroporto de Floriano, serves as a vital regional link for the city of Floriano and the southern Piauí region in Northeast Brazil. Strategically positioned along the banks of the Parnaíba River, the airport provides essential aviation infrastructure for this historic river city, which is known for its colonial architecture and as a center for regional commerce and education. The facility plays a key role in integrating the interior of Piauí with the state's broader transportation network.

The airport recently underwent a transformative modernization project, culminating in the inauguration of a brand-new passenger terminal in March 2023. This investment, totaling nearly R$1 million, replaced the older structures with a contemporary facility designed to meet modern safety and comfort standards. The project not only improved the terminal building itself but also involved significant upgrades to the runway, taxiway, and aircraft parking apron, ensuring the airport is capable of handling regional turboprop aircraft and private jets efficiently.

A major technical milestone for FLB was the recent authorization for night operations. The National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) has officially cleared the airport for night landings and takeoffs, following the installation of advanced airfield lighting and navigational aids. This capability significantly enhances the airport's utility, allowing for medical evacuations and emergency logistics around the clock, while also making the facility more attractive for future scheduled commercial services that may require early morning or late evening operations.

While the airport's infrastructure is now world-class for its size, scheduled commercial services are currently in a transitional phase. Although the terminal is fully equipped with check-in counters and security screening zones, there are presently no daily commercial flights operated by major carriers like Azul Linhas Aéreas. The local and state governments are actively working to attract new routes to connect Floriano directly to major hubs like Teresina or Brasília. In the meantime, the airport remains a bustling hub for general aviation, government personnel, and private charters, serving as a cornerstone for the economic development of southern Piauí.
