The airport currently operates through an interim passenger terminal building designed for efficient, high-volume domestic processing. Despite its compact size, the interim terminal has been praised for its intuitive design and rapid passenger turnaround times. To meet the overwhelming demand for air travel in the region, a massive new permanent terminal is under construction and expected to be completed in late 2026. This multi-storey structure will span over 50,000 square meters and will feature five aerobridges, 40 check-in counters, and a vertical flow separating arrivals on the ground floor and departures on the upper level. A hallmark of the new design will be its extensive use of traditional Madhubani and Mithila artwork, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the surrounding district and creating a unique aesthetic identity for the facility. Facilities at Darbhanga Airport focus on providing essential comforts for modern travelers. The waiting hall is equipped with multiple charging stations for electronic devices, clean restrooms, and dedicated baby care areas for families. For dining and retail, the terminal hosts several local food stalls offering traditional Bihari snacks and beverages, alongside souvenir kiosks that specialize in authentic Madhubani paintings and local handicrafts. The airport also provides wheelchairs and specialized assistance for passengers with reduced mobility, ensuring a professional and inclusive environment. Ground transportation is well-supported, with a dedicated parking area and a staffed taxi booking counter located just outside the arrivals exit.
