Cochin International Airport (COK)

Cochin International Airport (COK/VOCI) is the primary aviation hub serving Kochi and the state of Kerala, India. It holds the prestigious distinction of being the world's first fully solar-powered airport, a landmark achievement in sustainable aviation that reflects Kerala's commitment to green energy. Located approximately 25 kilometers northeast of the city center, it is the busiest and largest airport in Kerala, acting as a major gateway for the region's large expatriate population and a primary entry point for international tourists visiting the state's famous backwaters and hill stations.

The airport features a modern and expansive terminal complex consisting of three main passenger buildings: Terminal 1 for domestic operations, Terminal 2 for executive and business travel, and the state-of-the-art Terminal 3 for international flights. Terminal 3 is particularly notable for its traditional Kerala-inspired architecture combined with world-class facilities. Inside, travelers have access to a vast array of amenities, including extensive duty-free shopping areas, a large food court offering both regional and international cuisine, and several premium lounges. Operational capacity at Cochin International is supported by a significant paved runway (09/27) measuring approximately 3,400 meters in length, which is capable of handling large wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 777 and Airbus A380. Navigation through the terminal is exceptionally easy due to its logical layout and modern signage, although the facility can become exceptionally busy during the late-night and early-morning peak hours for international flights to the Middle East. For ground transportation, the airport is well-connected to Kochi and the surrounding region via official prepaid taxi services, frequent shuttle buses, and several international car rental agencies located in the arrivals halls.
