Coimbatore International Airport (CJB)

Coimbatore International Airport (CJB), located in Peelamedu approximately 10 kilometers from the city center, is the primary aviation hub for the Coimbatore Metropolitan Area and the Western Tamil Nadu region. As the second-busiest airport in the state after Chennai, it acts as a critical link for the region's prominent textile, manufacturing, and educational sectors. The facility is managed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and is currently the focus of a massive multi-million dollar expansion project designed to significantly increase its passenger and cargo capacity.

The airport currently operates through a single integrated passenger terminal that efficiently handles both domestic and international traffic. The terminal is designed with a straightforward layout, housing 24 check-in counters, 12 immigration desks, and 6 security screening booths all under one roof. While the current facility spans approximately 18,000 square meters, construction is underway for a brand-new integrated terminal that will be four times larger, featuring separate levels for arrivals and departures and state-of-the-art automated systems. The airfield features a 2,990-meter asphalt runway that is also slated for extension to 3,800 meters to accommodate larger wide-body aircraft for long-haul routes.

Amenities at Coimbatore International are well-appointed and reflect the city's status as a major industrial node. Passengers have access to free Wi-Fi for 15 minutes and several comfortable waiting lounges in both the domestic and international zones. The terminal features a variety of dining options, ranging from traditional South Indian eateries to international snack bars and cafes. Shopping is well-represented with duty-free stores in the international area and outlets selling local cotton textiles, jewelry, and souvenirs. Essential services such as currency exchange, multiple ATMs, 24-hour medical assistance, and specialized support for passengers with reduced mobility are all conveniently available on-site.

CJB provides robust connectivity within India and to key international destinations in Southeast Asia and the Middle East. It serves as a major operational point for IndiGo and Air India, with frequent non-stop flights to every major Indian city including Chennai (MAA), Bengaluru (BLR), Mumbai (BOM), and New Delhi (DEL). International services connect Coimbatore with global hubs such as Singapore (Scoot) and Sharjah (Air Arabia). Ground transportation is well-developed, with pre-paid taxi booths, app-based ride-sharing zones (Uber and Ola), and local bus services providing easy access to central Coimbatore and the neighboring industrial hubs of Tiruppur and Erode.
