Bathinda Airport (BUP) is a significant domestic aviation facility located in the Bhisiana village of Punjab, India. Operating as a civil enclave within the high-security Bhisiana Air Force Station, the airport serves as a primary transportation hub for the city of Bathinda and the surrounding Malwa region. It provides a critical link for government officials, military personnel, and business travelers, connecting one of Punjab’s most important industrial and railway centers with the national capital, New Delhi. The airport features a modern, compact passenger terminal building spanning approximately 1,200 square meters, designed specifically to manage domestic commercial operations. The facility is engineered for high efficiency, with a capacity to handle up to 100 passengers per hour. The terminal layout is highly intuitive, featuring a centralized check-in hall with multiple counters, a 30-seater secure departures lounge, and two modern baggage conveyor belts. This design ensures that all essential services are within short walking distance, providing a streamlined experience for travelers transitioning through the joint-use facility. Inside the terminal, passengers have access to a variety of essential amenities tailored to the needs of regional travelers. The facility hosts a dedicated VIP lounge, modern restroom facilities, and several ATMs from major Indian banks including SBI and ICICI. The airport is co-located with a strategically important Indian Air Force wing, established in 1975, which manages all air traffic control and emergency services for the airfield. The 2,804-meter asphalt and concrete runway is shared with the IAF and the Indian Army’s aviation units, supporting a diverse range of traffic from scheduled ATR 72 flights to sophisticated military hardware and UAVs. Ground transportation at BUP is well-supported by a variety of local options, with the Bathinda city center located approximately 16 kilometers to the southeast. Arriving travelers can access official taxi services or coordinate pre-arranged shuttle transfers to the Bathinda railway station, which is one of the largest in Asia. Regular bus services operated by the PEPSU Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) are available from a station located just two kilometers from the terminal exit. The facility also provides dedicated parking areas for residents and visitors arriving by private vehicle, and its proximity to National Highway 7 ensures easy access for those traveling to nearby industrial and agricultural zones.
