Bhavnagar Airport (BHU)

Bhavnagar Airport (BHU) is an essential domestic aviation hub serving the industrial and cultural heart of the Bhavnagar District in Gujarat, India. The airport is currently at the center of a major transformation following a ₹210 crore government allocation in early 2025 aimed at significantly expanding its infrastructure. This project includes the acquisition of additional land to extend the runway to 2,500 meters and the construction of a state-of-the-art passenger terminal building to replace the existing facility. These upgrades are designed to handle larger Code C aircraft, such as the Airbus A320, ensuring the airport can meet the growing demands of the region's thriving salt, ship-breaking, and diamond industries. The current passenger terminal is a functional structure capable of managing approximately 150 passengers during peak hours. It features a streamlined layout with centralized check-in counters and robust security screening provided by X-ray scanners. A key development for 2025 is the establishment of a commercial Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) center, set to begin servicing small to medium-sized aircraft by mid-year. The airport's single asphalt runway is equipped with an Instrument Landing System (ILS), facilitating safe arrivals and departures even during challenging weather conditions common to the Gulf of Khambhat region. Amenities within the terminal provide a high level of regional comfort, including a dedicated VIP lounge for premium travelers and a medical inspection room with professional aid available. Passengers have access to free baggage trolleys, multiple mobile charging points, and comfortable waiting areas equipped with flight information display systems. While the terminal houses basic snack shops and retail stalls for local essentials, more extensive services are expected in the upcoming terminal expansion. Ground transportation is conveniently arranged with local taxi services and car rentals available outside the arrivals hall, providing quick 10-minute connections to Bhavnagar city center and its historic landmarks like the Nilambag Palace and Gandhi Smriti.
