Raja Bhoj International Airport (BHO)

Raja Bhoj International Airport (BHO), named after the 11th-century Paramara king, is a major aviation hub serving Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh. The airport is currently undergoing a transformative expansion to become the state's first two-level terminal facility. By late 2025, the terminal will feature a dedicated ground-floor Domestic Arrival Hall, while the first floor will be optimized exclusively for departures. This modernization includes direct aerobridge access, high-speed escalators, and an expanded check-in hall designed to nearly double the airport's annual passenger capacity to meet growing regional demand. The facility is a pioneer in sustainable aviation, featuring a 1-megawatt solar power plant that contributes significantly to its energy needs. A new, state-of-the-art Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower was inaugurated in early 2024, enhancing the airport's operational safety and efficiency. The airfield is equipped with a Category II Instrument Landing System (ILS), allowing for safe flight movements during the dense fog common in central India during winter months. The single integrated terminal provides a seamless experience for domestic travelers and seasonal international services, such as Haj pilgrimage flights. Amenities at BHO are comprehensive, including the 'Primus Lounge' in the domestic departure area, which offers high-speed Wi-Fi, refreshments, and comfortable workstations. The terminal features a variety of dining options ranging from local Bhopal specialties to international cafes, alongside retail stores for souvenirs and essentials. Unique services include a massage center with foot-massage chairs, a dedicated nursing room, and a smoking lounge. For ground transportation, the airport is approximately 15 kilometers from the city center, with a prepaid taxi counter, ride-sharing services, and car rentals available immediately outside the arrivals exit. Connectivity is further enhanced by e-boarding gates and digital check-in kiosks that streamline the pre-flight process.
