L.F. Wade International Airport (BDA)

L.F. Wade International Airport (BDA) is the sole international gateway to the British Overseas Territory of Bermuda, located in St. George's Parish. A major milestone in the island's aviation history was reached in December 2020 with the opening of a brand-new, state-of-the-art passenger terminal. This 288,000-square-foot facility replaced the aging 1940s-era terminal, offering a significantly enhanced travel experience with modern architecture, improved energy efficiency, and high-tech passenger processing systems. The terminal features a two-level design, with departures handled on the upper level and arrivals on the lower level, all connected by four covered passenger boarding bridges—the first in the airport's history. A defining feature of BDA is its integrated U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) pre-clearance facility. This allows passengers flying to the United States to complete all immigration, customs, and agricultural inspections in Bermuda before boarding their flight. Upon arrival in the U.S., these travelers are treated as domestic passengers, bypassing long queues at major hubs like New York JFK, Atlanta, or Miami. The new terminal was designed specifically to optimize this process, featuring a dedicated U.S. departures wing with its own security checkpoints and premium lounge facilities, ensuring a seamless transition for the thousands of travelers who visit the island from North America each year. Amenities within the new L.F. Wade terminal are world-class and reflect Bermuda's unique cultural identity. The facility boasts two 'Primeclass' lounges: one serving international departures and another specifically for U.S.-bound travelers after they have cleared pre-clearance. Both lounges provide high-speed Wi-Fi, comfortable workspaces, and a selection of gourmet refreshments. The terminal's retail and dining zone includes a diverse range of options, from duty-free luxury boutiques to local Bermudian cafes and sit-down restaurants. Travelers can also find a variety of unique island crafts and products, such as the famous Outerbridge's Sherry Peppers. The entire facility is fully accessible and includes family-friendly features such as nursing rooms and interactive children's play areas.
