Maharishi Valmiki International Airport (AYJ) is a landmark aviation project that serves as the spiritual gateway to the historic city of Ayodhya. The airport's terminal architecture is a masterpiece of the traditional Indian Nagara style, intentionally designed to mirror the aesthetic of the grand Ram Mandir. Its stunning facade features a stepped shikar and intricate brass detailing, while the interior is transformed into a cultural gallery with murals and artworks that narrate the life of Lord Ram. The terminal’s columns are even designed to symbolize the various "Kandas" (chapters) of the Ramayana, providing an immersive experience for pilgrims from the moment they land. Despite its traditional design, the terminal is a state-of-the-art two-story facility that prioritizes efficiency and sustainability. The ground floor is dedicated to passenger processing, featuring nine check-in counters and modern baggage handling systems with specialized conveyor belts for arrivals and departures. The building is designed for high sustainability, utilizing a double-insulated roofing system, LED lighting, and a solar power plant to achieve a GRIHA 5-star rating. With a capacity to handle 300 passengers during peak hours, the airport seamlessly manages the growing volume of domestic traffic from cities across India. The airport offers a comprehensive range of amenities tailored to both religious pilgrims and leisure travelers. Inside the terminal, visitors can browse diverse retail outlets offering local Ayodhya handicrafts, religious artifacts, and souvenirs. Dining options are plentiful, featuring cafes that serve local delicacies alongside standard international fare. The terminal is fully accessible for passengers with reduced mobility (PRM) and provides essential services such as free Wi-Fi, numerous charging stations, and dedicated baggage storage facilities. These modern touches ensure that the spiritual journey to Ayodhya is accompanied by contemporary comfort. Strategically located just a short distance from the city center, AYJ is connected via a dedicated 3.2-kilometer four-lane road.
