Assab International Airport (ASA)

Assab International Airport (ASA) serves the port city of Assab on Eritrea's Red Sea coast. Despite its designation, the airport experiences extremely limited commercial passenger traffic due to Eritrea's highly controlled borders and political isolation. The facility functions primarily as a military airfield, handling cargo, government flights, and occasional humanitarian or diplomatic charters. Consequently, the terminal building is basic and largely devoid of public passenger services, reflecting its operational focus rather than commercial aviation.

Operational procedures at Assab are highly restricted and controlled. There are no scheduled commercial flights, and any air travel to or from Assab typically requires extensive prior governmental authorization. Security is extremely stringent, managed by military or state security forces. Immigration and customs processes, when applicable, are manual, lengthy, and subject to intense scrutiny, reflecting the country's tight border controls. Travelers should not expect standard international airport protocols or services.
