Qaisumah/Hafr Al-Batin Airport (AQI)

Al Qaisumah/Hafr Al-Batin Airport (AQI) is a significant and historic aviation hub located in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. Originally established in 1962 by the Arabian American Oil Company (Aramco), it began as a private airstrip dedicated to supporting the company's logistical operations. Over the decades, it has evolved from a corporate airfield into a modern regional international airport, serving as the primary gateway for the burgeoning city of Hafar Al-Batin and the surrounding communities. In recent years, the airport has undergone substantial expansion under the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), aligning with the goals of the Saudi Vision 2030 initiative. A newly expanded facility was inaugurated in late 2022, significantly increasing the airport's capacity to handle the rising demand for both domestic and regional international travel. These infrastructure improvements are designed to bolster the local economy and enhance the Eastern Province's integration into the national and international aviation networks. The terminal building is a modern, single-level facility that efficiently manages both domestic and international passenger flows. A major highlight of the recent modernization is the new executive lounge, which opened in early 2022, offering a high-end and comfortable environment for business travelers. Inside the main terminal, passengers have access to a variety of essential amenities, including well-maintained prayer rooms, currency exchange counters, car rental desks, and several cafés and retail kiosks that provide local and international products. International connectivity at AQI is robust for a regional hub, with scheduled flights to major cities such as Cairo and Dubai. These routes are served by carriers including Saudia, flydubai, and Nile Air, facilitating the movement of business professionals, tourists, and pilgrims. The airfield features a 3,000-meter asphalt runway, which is capable of accommodating large narrow-body aircraft like the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320. This technical capability, combined with streamlined security and immigration processes, ensures that the airport remains a vital and efficient link for the region.
