Ahuas Airport (AHS)

Ahuas Airport (AHS) is a remote community airstrip in Honduras’ Gracias a Dios department, serving the village of Ahuas on the Mosquito Coast. Facilities center on a very small terminal hut/shelter adjacent to an unpaved runway used by charter, missionary, medical, and community flights connecting to larger Honduran towns. Check‑in is informal and handled by the operator on duty; passengers board on foot across the apron. Arrivals walk directly into the public area where baggage is hand‑returned.

The airfield layout is extremely simple. From the drop‑off point to the terminal shelter is under 1 minute, and the walk to parked aircraft is typically 30–60 seconds depending on position. There are no buses, jet bridges, or inter‑terminal transfers—everything is ground‑level and within a few dozen meters.

There is no TSA‑style screening and no immigration or customs at AHS. All international border formalities, if part of an itinerary, occur at larger airports such as Tegucigalpa (TGU), San Pedro Sula (SAP), or Roatán (RTB). Local security is informal but enforced by operators; bring government ID for manifest verification.

Amenities are minimal. Expect basic seating and, when staffed, a simple kiosk or office; there are no restaurants, lounges, or retail. Cellular coverage and Wi‑Fi can be inconsistent. Ground transport is pre‑arranged with local drivers or your lodge—there is no formal taxi rank. Cash is preferred in remote areas; carry small denominations.
