๐ข Terminal Information
Walla Walla Regional Airport (ALW) is a vital aviation gateway to the world-renowned wine country of southeastern Washington. Located just three miles north of downtown Walla Walla, the airport is owned and operated by the Port of Walla Walla and provides a critical aerial link for the region's agricultural, academic, and tourism sectors. This single-gate airport operates a compact passenger terminal building owned by the Port of Walla Walla since 1989, recently remodeled in 2022 with a larger boarding area and glass walls to accommodate Alaska Airlines' Embraer 175 regional jets serving twice-daily scheduled services to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA).
The terminal experience at Walla Walla is characterized by its compact, user-friendly design and its unique historical atmosphere. Inside, passengers have access to essential amenities including comfortable waiting areas, clean restrooms, and a small cafรฉ that offers light snacks and locally sourced beverages. While the airport lacks the extensive commercial concourses of major hubs, it provides a professional environment with free Wi-Fi and dedicated customer service from the resident airline staff. The layout is exceptionally straightforward, with the check-in counters and a single TSA security checkpoint situated just a few steps from the boarding gates, ensuring a stress-free transition for all travelers.
Operational excellence is a hallmark of the ALW terminal, which is also home to a significant general aviation community and a state-of-the-art Fixed-Base Operator (FBO) managed by Gorge Aviation. The airport's 6,527-foot primary runway is capable of handling a wide range of aircraft, from regional turboprops to large corporate jets. The FBO provides comprehensive services including fueling, aircraft maintenance, and concierge assistance, reflecting the airport's importance as a strategic base for private pilots exploring the Pacific Northwest. For visitors, the airport represents a professional and welcoming entry point to one of America's premier viticultural areas, offering immediate access to the urban infrastructure of Walla Walla and the scenic vineyards of the surrounding valleys.
๐ Connection Tips
Walla Walla Regional Airport (ALW) is a small airport with a very clear current role. The airport's own site points travelers directly to Alaska Airlines service, which means most commercial trips through ALW are really about reaching Seattle and using that hub onward. That is good news for local access because the terminal is simple and the distance from aircraft to curb is short. The caution is that the important connection is not in Walla Walla. It is in Seattle.
If your trip includes a major domestic or international onward flight, build the margin at SEA rather than trying to squeeze the ALW segment. A small airport can feel easy enough to tempt short connection planning, but one delay into Seattle can undo a much larger itinerary. That is especially true in winter, during marine-weather disruption, or whenever the Seattle system is running tight.
If Walla Walla itself is the destination, ALW is convenient and efficient, particularly for wine tourism, college visits, and local business. Ground transport is still something to think about in advance, especially if you are arriving outside the main business day or heading straight to a winery, college campus, or rural property rather than downtown.
ALW works best when you use its simplicity to reduce stress rather than to cut the schedule too fine. The airport is easy. The smart planning is in how you protect Seattle and how well you arrange the final transfer into Walla Walla Valley. Please ensure that all your onward travel arrangements, including ground transport to your final destination, are confirmed well in advance. Our research indicates that regional transit in this area is highly weather-dependent and requires travelers to remain flexible with their schedules. Always confirm your flight status 24 hours prior to departure, carry your essential medications and critical documents in your hand baggage, and maintain open lines of communication with your local hosts or transport providers. By treating this airport segment as the foundation of your regional travel plan rather than the conclusion of your flight, you will find that it is a highly reliable gateway, provided you account for the unique pace of local transport and the seasonal variability of the local environment, which can often be unpredictable due to sudden meteorological shifts or technical logistics.

๐ข Terminal Information
Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ) is the primary international airport serving New Mexico, located just three miles southeast of downtown Albuquerque. The airport boasts a distinctive Pueblo-style architectural terminal, which is both aesthetically pleasing and highly functional. This single, multi-level terminal efficiently manages all arrivals and departures, featuring a logical layout designed for passenger convenience. The lower level is dedicated to arriving passengers, housing baggage claim areas (three in total to serve Concourses A and B) and providing direct exits to ground transportation.
The upper level of the terminal is the departure zone, where travelers will find airline ticketing counters, security checkpoints, and access to the two main concourses, Concourse A and Concourse B. Concourse A primarily serves American Airlines, Delta, and United, while Southwest Airlines predominantly operates out of Concourse B. The terminal has a total of 22 gates, ensuring ample capacity for its scheduled domestic flights and limited international services. Recent upgrades include a TSA Checkpoint Terminal Connector Project, which has enhanced security screening with up to four lanes and modern passenger amenities like new escalators and elevators.
Amenities at ABQ are comprehensive for a regional international facility. Passengers can enjoy free Wi-Fi, numerous charging stations, a variety of shops (including those offering local artisanal gifts), and diverse dining options ranging from cafes and fast-food outlets to restaurants serving New Mexican cuisine. Additional facilities like a Meditation Room and an observation deck contribute to a comfortable travel experience, complemented by a notable art collection displayed throughout the terminal.
๐ Connection Tips
Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ) offers excellent ground transportation connectivity just 3 miles southeast of downtown. ABQ RIDE provides completely free bus service (fare-free since November 2023) with Route 50 connecting the airport to downtown via Union Square Bus Station every 15-30 minutes, taking just 24 minutes total - the bus stop is conveniently located on the lower level at the west end of the shuttle island. Route 50 also connects to the Alvarado Transportation Center downtown where passengers can transfer to the New Mexico Rail Runner Express.
Rail Runner connections are enhanced through Route 350 (Railrunner Connecting bus) and free bus transfers when you have a valid Rail Runner ticket purchased in advance online or via mobile app - otherwise pay the driver a $1 fare each way. Official taxi service is available with fares starting at $35 to downtown Albuquerque through companies like ABQ Metro Taxi (505-450-8580) and Aspen Rides (505-388-3692). Ride-sharing via Uber and Lyft requires pre-booking as street hailing is not permitted.
For Santa Fe destinations, Groome Transportation operates 30 daily trips taking 75 minutes with variable pricing, while RoadRunner Charter provides door-to-door service to Santa Fe and Los Alamos areas. The Rail Runner Express connects Santa Fe, Albuquerque, and Belen with convenient airport shuttle connections.
