Geita Airport (GIT), also known as Mchauru Airport, is a modern regional aviation facility serving the Geita and Chato regions of northwestern Tanzania. Officially inaugurated in early 2021, the airport represents a significant investment by the Tanzanian government to improve connectivity in this important mining and agricultural area. Strategically located near the shores of Lake Victoria, the airport provides a vital link for the region's gold mining industry and serves as a gateway for tourists visiting the nearby Rubondo Island National Park and other attractions in the Lake Zone.
The passenger terminal at Geita Airport is a state-of-the-art facility designed to offer a modern and comfortable experience for travelers. Inside, visitors find spacious waiting areas equipped with free high-speed Wi-Fi and comfortable seating. The terminal provides a comprehensive range of amenities including efficient baggage handling systems, currency exchange services, ATMs, and even shower facilities. Scheduled commercial services at GIT are primarily provided by Air Tanzania, the national flag carrier.
