๐ข Terminal Information
Aeropuerto Nacional de Playa del Carmen (PCM) is a specialized domestic aviation facility located directly within the city of Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico. The airport features a single, functional passenger terminal building designed to handle regional charters, scenic aerial tours, and skydiving operations. It acts as a unique city-center hub, situated at the southern end of the downtown area, just steps away from the famous Fifth Avenue (Quinta Avenida).
The terminal infrastructure is modest and focused on general aviation, providing essential check-in and waiting areas for travelers utilizing air taxi services like Aerosaab. While the building lacks large-scale commercial amenities such as duty-free shops or high-end restaurants, its central location ensures immediate access to the city's extensive dining and retail options. The facility also houses several dedicated offices for adventure tourism operators, specifically catering to the region's active skydiving community.
The airfield features a single 2,805-foot (855m) asphalt runway (11/29) and operates strictly during daylight hours under Visual Flight Rules (VFR). Ground transportation is exceptionally convenient, with authorized taxi ranks located directly outside the terminal exit and major bus and ferry terminals within walking distance. Most international visitors reach the city via Cancun International Airport (CUN) or Tulum International (TQO) and utilize this municipal field for specialized regional transit and recreational flights.
๐ Connection Tips
Aeropuerto Nacional de Playa del Carmen (PCM) is a local airfield primarily serving small skydiving operations and short scenic hops. IMPORTANT: It currently handles NO regular scheduled commercial airline flights. For travelers visiting Playa del Carmen, the standard and highly recommended connection is to fly into Cancun International Airport (CUN) and take the 'ADO Bus.
' The ADO bus departs every 20-30 minutes from all Cancun terminals and reaches Playa del Carmen in about 60 minutes for approx. 250 Pesos ($15 USD). There are two ADO stations in town: the 'Main' station at 5th Ave & Juarez and the 'Alterna' station at 20th Ave & 12th St The ADO and highway transfers make it feel more like a beach-town road node than a classic airport arrival, which is why the local timing matters more than the runway.
Private shuttles and taxis are also available but much more expensive. Ensure you do not attempt to book a commercial flight to the PCM code Skydivers and day-trippers usually arrive with a plan already set, because the field has little room for casual passenger wandering. That is the reason the airport works best for purpose-built trips instead of casual turn-up-and-fly travel. A bus or taxi from Cancun should already be planned, because the local field is not a commercial arrival airport.

This contemporary terminal services both domestic and international flights, streamlining the travel experience.
The terminal is a two-story facility. The upper level is dedicated to departures (Salidas), housing check-in counters for airlines like Volaris, Aeromรฉxico, and Viva Aerobus. The lower level is for arrivals (Llegadas), where passengers will find baggage claim areas and car rental counters, along with exits to ground transportation. The compact and intuitive layout ensures easy navigation, with all essential services and amenities integrated within this single structure, eliminating the need for complex inter-terminal transfers.
Amenities at ACA are well-appointed for a tourist-focused international airport. These include VIP lounges for eligible passengers, a variety of shops (featuring Duty-Free and local Mexican artisanal crafts), numerous cafes and restaurants offering both local cuisine and international options, currency exchange points, ATMs, and baggage packing services. The airport's modern infrastructure and passenger-friendly facilities contribute to a comfortable and efficient travel experience.
